Pieps Probe Carbon 240 Race 2021 2022

The PIEPS Carbon 240 Race is a mechanical avalanche probe with carbon tubes and a deployed length of 240 cm. It focuses on a particularly light construction that folds down for packing. Six tube sections are connected by the tensioning line. The Speed-Cone system helps the sections join together, while coloured markings assist orientation along the probe. It is equipment for locating a burial in snow.

Version and details

• Carbon avalanche probe with a 240 cm deployed length.
• Six tube sections, 10.6 mm in diameter.
• Manufacturer-stated weight: 120 g.
• Speed-Cone system and tensioning line.
• PIEPS markings at 100 cm and 40 cm.

Selection and use

Practise deployment, locking and folding before a trip using the PIEPS instructions. The probe should tension fully with undamaged connections and be packed where it is accessible. A probe complements an avalanche transceiver and shovel; regular practical training is essential for using them together. Choose the full equipment setup for the trip and group. The Race construction is particularly light, so careful handling and inspection of the carbon sections matter.

Care and inspection

Clean and dry the probe fully after use. Inspect tubes, tensioning line, tip and connection points for cracks, bends or wear. Have damaged parts assessed before further use and store the probe in a protected position.
