Salewa Ortles HMS Carabiner M

The Salewa Ortles HMS M is a medium-sized HMS carabiner with a manual screwgate. Its pear-shaped 7075 T6 aluminium body provides space for the rope connections and belaying applications specified by the manufacturer for climbing and mountaineering. A broad rope-bearing surface and an even curve support orderly rope movement. The slim keylock nose reduces snagging when clipping and unclipping.

The spring-loaded gate is secured with a textured screw barrel. For model 72002, Salewa lists dimensions of 110 x 76 mm and a weight of 78 g. The stated breaking loads are 23 kN along the major axis with the gate closed, 9 kN across the minor axis and 8 kN with the gate open. These describe different test conditions and do not authorize arbitrary loading directions. Select your preferred colour through the variant.

Before each use, inspect the body, gate and locking mechanism for cracks, deformation, corrosion or wear, and check that the gate closes fully. Follow the instructions and check compatibility with the rest of your equipment. If cleaning is needed, use clear lukewarm water and allow the carabiner to dry at room temperature. Protect it from damage and aggressive chemicals during storage and transport.
