Weihar climbing crag in the Allgäu

With over 130 routes, the "Weihar" is one of the largest and most popular sport climbing areas in the Oberallgäu. The area's first modern bolted routes were established here in the 1980s. New routes have been developed over the years, and everything has now been fully refurbished.
At a glance
- Routes: over 130 routes in five sectors, grades 3 to 10, mainly grades 6 and 7
- Protection: glue-in bolts and heavy-duty anchors, with chains and carabiners usually used for draws
- Equipment: 70-metre single rope, 12 quickdraws
- Orientation: southwest, sun from midday
- Approach: approx. 15 minutes from the car park
Character
Mostly steep wall climbing with occasional overhangs. In some sectors, up to three pitches can be climbed in succession. The short, easy approach ensures that the area is busy, and frequent use has already worn down many of the holds. Most sectors face southwest, and the sun shines on the rock from midday.
Sectors
- Hängender Stein: 12 routes, grades 7 to 9
- Fliwatüt: 6 routes, grades 6 to 7+
- Ifenblick: 50 routes, grades 6 to 10
- Mitte: 50 routes, grades 3 to 9
- Rädlerfels: 15 routes, grades 6 to 8
Starting point and approach
From Bad Hindelang, take the pass road towards Oberjoch. After a few hairpin bends, there is a small car park on the left side of the road.
Follow the paved road towards Hirschalpe. After about 15 minutes, there is a small toilet block on the right. Follow a well-trodden path to the first sector, "Mitte"; the other sectors rise to the left and right.
