Mammut Alugator Light

The Mammut Alugator Light is a lightweight, dismantlable avalanche shovel for ski-touring and freeride equipment. Reference 2620-00231/2149 identifies the Neon Orange version offered here. It combines compact packing dimensions with a telescopic shaft and an aluminium blade. Mammut specifies a weight of 475 g and certification to the UIAA 156 avalanche-shovel standard for this model.

The hardened, anodised blade has reinforcing ribs, a sharpened edge and integrated step areas. A symmetrical T-grip complements the oval telescopic shaft. A spring lock helps connect the parts. Manufacturer dimensions are 54 cm collapsed and 75 cm extended, with a blade measuring 21 cm wide and 24 cm long. Attachment holes support the additional applications described in the instructions. The shovel does not replace other emergency equipment, practical training or regular practice.

Before your tour, check that every connection locks securely and the shaft operates without jamming. Pack the shovel where it is quickly accessible alongside your other emergency equipment. Practise assembly and handling while wearing gloves as well. After use, remove snow and moisture from connecting points and let the separate parts dry. Regularly inspect the blade, shaft and locking mechanism for deformation, cracks or substantial wear.
