Pieps T Shovel 640

The Pieps T640 Telescopic is an avalanche shovel with a telescopic shaft and a T-handle. It is designed for ski touring and other activities in winter terrain. The shaft collapses for packing and must be extended and securely engaged in accordance with the instructions before use.

Its hardened-aluminium blade measures 28 × 22 × 4 cm according to Pieps. The manufacturer lists 295 g for the blade and 345 g for the shaft, giving a total weight of 640 g. The T-handle is shaped to provide a practical grip when wearing gloves.

Pronounced central ribs reinforce the blade. Sharpened edges, a special surface coating and non-slip step grooves complete its construction. At home, check that the separated parts fit the intended compartment of your backpack and that you can remove and assemble the shovel promptly while wearing gloves.

A shovel does not replace an avalanche transceiver, probe, training or regular companion-rescue practice. Follow the Pieps instructions and learn its use with competent guidance. Before each outing, inspect the blade, shaft, handle and locking mechanism for damage and correct function. Remove snow and moisture afterwards and let all parts dry before packing them away.
