The Ortovox Diract Voice in Blue Ocean is a digital three-antenna avalanche transceiver for companion rescue during ski touring and freeriding. Spoken instructions accompany the search, supported by the display and acoustic cues. Smart Antenna technology selects the appropriate transmitting antenna according to the device's orientation. A transceiver does not prevent an avalanche or replace careful route planning.

Features include a group check, flagging function, self-test and rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The device weighs 210 g and the carrying system adds 80 g. The maximum stated search strip width is 50 m. Follow the search strip width actually displayed by the device, which can adapt to the surrounding conditions. This figure is not a universal reception-range guarantee.

For secondary-avalanche protection, the manual specifies an automatic return from search or standby to transmit after two minutes of little movement. Check the battery status, self-test and the group's devices before starting out. Keep software and servicing up to date. Follow the instructions for carrying the transceiver and managing interference from electronic or metal objects.

Practise the complete companion-rescue sequence regularly with a transceiver, probe and shovel. Learn the switches, language selection and flagging function before you need them. Read the supplied manual in full and follow the manufacturer's instructions for charging, storage and servicing.
