Petzl William Ball-Lock

The Petzl WILLIAM BALL-LOCK is a large, pear-shaped locking carabiner made from aluminium. Its asymmetrical shape provides room for connecting suitable equipment, including use at belay stations and for belaying with a Munter hitch. This grey version carries reference M36A BL and uses the automatic BALL-LOCK locking system.

Opening requires three consecutive actions, and the mechanism locks automatically when the gate closes. The shape is designed to be manageable even with gloves. A Keylock nose reduces unintended snagging when clipping and unclipping. The gate and locking sleeve must still close correctly and remain free to move before and throughout use.

Petzl specifies a weight of 90 grams and a gate opening of 27 millimetres for the M36A BL. Strength ratings are 27 kN along the major axis with the gate closed, 8 kN across the minor axis and 8 kN with the gate open. These are distinct test conditions, not working loads that can be selected freely.

Check compatibility with your rope, belay device and attachment points using the relevant instructions. Inspect the carabiner for damage and verify that its locking mechanism works reliably. Use it only with appropriate training, and follow Petzl's inspection, care and retirement requirements.
