Petzl AM´D Ball Lock

The Petzl Am’D BALL-LOCK is an asymmetrical aluminium carabiner with a D-shaped body. This M34A BL version has an automatically locking gate that requires three successive actions to open. It is particularly suited to applications where a locking connector needs to be opened and closed frequently.

Its shape is easy to hold, including when wearing gloves. The Keylock system helps reduce snagging while connecting or removing equipment. Petzl specifies a weight of 75 g and a gate opening of 25 mm. Rated strength is 27 kN along the major axis, 8 kN across the minor axis and 7 kN with the gate open.

Correct loading is essential: use the carabiner along its major axis with the gate closed and the sleeve locked. Check compatibility with your harness and belay device before use. These strength ratings do not replace instruction in the relevant belaying technique.

Before every use, inspect the body, gate and locking mechanism for damage and proper operation. Check that the gate is fully locked each time it closes. Follow Petzl’s instructions for cleaning, storage, periodic inspection and retirement. Stop using the carabiner if there is any doubt about its reliability.
