Swiss made
Since 1935, Stöckli has stood for Swiss ski making. The same rigour shapes the factory in Malters and the road to the big race courses.
In Malters, every Stöckli ski is built in more than 140 work steps. Craftsmanship and modern manufacturing mesh precisely.
Stöckli's journey in the Swiss-Ski Pool began in 1994. In 1996, Urs Kälin took the first World Cup win. Racing experience still flows into development today.
The Stöckli NELA 86 is the light, agile all-mountain ski from Stöckli's NELA women's series: for women skiers who want to feel as much at home on the piste as in relaxed terrain at the edge of the piste.
With an 86 mm waist width, the NELA 86 positions itself as a versatile piste all-mountain ski that allows short to medium turns with ease and, thanks to rocker at the tip and tail, does not quickly reach its limits off the piste either. The topsheet also carries the model designation "NELA86 THERMAL TECH". Stöckli does not currently publish a separate precise technical definition of this addition, but it presumably refers to the light, bonded core and laminate construction (Light Core, Softflex, Thin Glass Laminate) of this model. Thanks to the lightweight construction and the soft flex tuning, the NELA 86 can be guided with little effort without becoming unsettled at higher speed.
| Waist width | 86 mm |
|---|---|
| Sidecut | 112 - 86 - 129 mm (according to topsheet print) |
| Lengths | 155 / 162 / 169 cm |
| Radius | approx. 14.0 m (according to print; varies slightly with length) |
| Rocker | Rocker at the tip and tail (Tail Rocker) |
| Core | Light Core: light European woods in a sandwich construction |
| Edge | SME Light, lightweight metal edge |
| Base | Racing Graphite |
| Laminate | Thin Glass Laminate: approx. 25% lighter fibreglass laminate |
| Titanal | Titanal Technology PRO |
| Rocker | The tip and tail lift slightly off the snow early. This makes it easier to initiate turns on the piste and provides better float as soon as there is fresh snow. |
|---|---|
| Tail Rocker (TR) | An extended, flatter rocker in the ski end makes it easier to finish turns and makes the ski more forgiving if you happen to sit back. |
| Light Core (LC) | Lightweight sandwich core made from selected European woods: it reduces swing weight and delivers a dynamic, responsive feel. |
| Thin Glass Laminate (TGL) | A fibreglass laminate around 25% lighter than in classic construction that still delivers the same stiffness: it saves additional weight without taking any power out of the ski. |
| Softflex (SF) | The individual laminate layers are thinner, which gives the ski a softer overall flex character: it can be skied with less effort. |
| SME Light | Slim, weight-optimised metal edge that sits less deeply in the ski than a standard edge. This saves weight and at the same time allows more re-sharpening passes over the life of the ski. |
| POLYWALL (PWA) | A slightly softer, more elastic sidewall material than a classic phenolic sidewall: it dampens vibrations and makes the ski more forgiving in changeable and uneven snow. |
| Freeride Tip Technology (FTT) | A lightweight, stiff insert material in the tip area that provides extra float as soon as the ski sinks into softer snow. |
| Titanal Technology PRO | There is no classic top layer above the Titanal layer. Instead, the uppermost Titanal layer is powder-coated directly. This saves build height and weight. |
The NELA 86 relies on a lightweight sandwich core made from European woods (Light Core), combined with thinner laminate layers (Softflex) and a weight-reduced fibreglass laminate (Thin Glass Laminate). This keeps swing weight low and makes the ski approachable without giving up the torsional stability of Titanal. The 86 mm waist and the handy radius make short to medium turn radii easy, while rocker in the tip and tail provides forgiving behaviour as soon as things get softer away from the groomed piste. Overall, a ski deliberately designed for piste-oriented versatility, more agile and easier to move than the wider NELA 93.
The NELA 86 is aimed at women skiers who spend most of their time on the piste but want the confidence to cope well when they head into fresh snow or the edge of the piste. Thanks to its lightweight construction and soft flex tuning, it is also suitable for skiers who enjoy long ski days without fatigue and do not want to ski with maximum effort. If you regularly seek out deep snow and off-piste descents, you will be better served by the wider NELA 93 from the same series.
