Opinel knife blades are made of particularly high-quality stainless steel that offers both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade has excellent sharpness and high wear resistance (wear resistance), allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials like ceramics before needing to be sharpened.
Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it requires no special maintenance under normal use conditions.
However, it can reach its limits when it comes into prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.).

Knife handle
The knife handle is injected with fiberglass-reinforced polymer, providing high resistance to impacts, water, and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C).
A signal whistle without a ball is integrated at the end of the handle.
It works in any weather, with a strength of 110 dB and a range of about 300 meters in the open.

Safety ring
The Virobloc safety ring was invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel.
It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards.
The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part.
In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it's now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
