Crankbrothers Eggbeater 2

The Crankbrothers Eggbeater 2 is a compact mountain-bike clip-in pedal with four-sided entry. Its open construction leaves space for mud to clear and allows engagement from different pedal positions. This model combines a cast steel body with stamped steel wings. A forged chromoly steel spindle connects it to the crank. The system uses matching Crankbrothers cleats.

Selection and use

Check the crank interface and the cleat mounting area on your shoe. Crankbrothers pedals require the designated cleats; Shimano SPD cleats do not fit. Float and release behaviour depend on the fitted cleats and their setup. Match the supplied cleat generation to its instructions rather than assuming a release angle from the pedal name alone. Practise clipping in and out in a controlled setting first, and check the contact between shoe sole and pedal.

Care and checks

Remove mud and dirt regularly without directing a pressure-washer jet at the bearings. Check the pedal for play and inspect the cleats and their screws for wear and secure attachment. Maintenance intervals depend on use and conditions. Use suitable original replacement parts and follow Crankbrothers’ lubrication and bearing-service instructions.
