  • What are alpine skis?

Alpine skis are skis for groomed pistes, often called piste or downhill skis. They include carvers for clean, tight turns, race skis for high speed and all-mountain skis that also handle soft snow beside the piste. Touring skis for the climb and freeride skis for powder are separate categories in our shop.

  • Which alpine ski is right for me?

Beginners and relaxed skiers are best served by a softer carver with a narrow waist: it turns easily and forgives mistakes. Sporty skiers choose a stiffer race carver that stays calm at speed. If you want to leave the piste now and then, pick an all-mountain ski with a waist of about 80 to 90 mm. Women's models are lighter, softer and come in shorter lengths. Our team in Ronsberg and Pfronten is happy to advise you in person.

  • How long should an alpine ski be?

As a rule of thumb, a carver should reach somewhere between your chin and nose, about 10 to 15 cm below your height. All-mountain and race skis can be longer, up to forehead or full height. Beginners and light skiers go shorter, heavy and fast skiers longer. The available lengths are listed on every product page.

  • Do alpine skis come with a binding?

Many of our alpine skis are sold as a set with a matching system binding; the product page tells you whether the binding is included. For skis without a binding you add a suitable alpine binding. If you order ski and binding together, our ski workshop mounts and adjusts the binding free of charge before shipping. For that you enter the sole length of your ski boot when ordering, or send it to us afterwards.

  • Do I need special boots for alpine skis?

Yes, alpine skis are used with alpine ski boots whose sole has to match the binding (classic alpine sole or GripWalk). You will find matching models from Fischer, Salomon, Atomic, Head and Lange under ski boots. In Ronsberg we scan your feet in 3D and fit the boots during bootfitting.
